Creative Drayton is proud to feature Denise McGowan, a founding member and the creative force behind Therapeutic Art, combining her passion for art with a deep understanding of its therapeutic benefits.

A Lifelong Creative Journey

Denise's creative journey began at an early age, learning textiles from her grandmother. With a degree emphasising textiles, she went on to teach Textiles and Art at secondary schools. After leaving full-time teaching in 1998, Denise leveraged her textile expertise to design and create evening and wedding wear before moving to Market Drayton in 1999.

Establishing a Creative Space

With a young family, Denise established a creative space in Market Drayton where children and parents alike could explore various arts and crafts. Although a separate business consumed her time until 2022, she continued to support creative workshops in schools and run small workshop groups at home.

Expanding into Therapeutic Art

In 2017, Denise expanded her skills by training as a counsellor and completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology. This additional training allowed her to offer Therapeutic Art/Art Therapy sessions, fostering healing and self-expression. Her workshops experienced a resurgence, and she also rekindled her passion for watercolour painting. In 2023, Denise exhibited her paintings for the first time in a gallery in Lancashire, and her work has since been featured in several exhibitions. She takes commissions and has had her artwork reproduced on cards.

Teaching and Workshops

Denise’s passion remains in enabling others to be creative. She is a resident artist at a local primary school and teaches watercolour sessions at the local library, alongside her own workshops and therapeutic sessions. Her artistic repertoire includes watercolours, acrylics, textiles, felting, stained glass, silver clay, silversmithing, mosaic making, and millinery.

Holistic Approach

Denise’s holistic approach encourages individuals to declutter their minds creatively, detox their bodies cleanly, and nourish their souls holistically.
